Old Seats...

posted Jul 30, 2014, 3:21 PM by Geoffrey Herteg

Looks like the new clamshells will fit (barely!), so it's time to part with the old ones.  Time to throw 'em up on the Internet to see what they fetch.  :)

Looks like the LED bulbs I got from China via Flea-Bay have a fatal flaw...  The bases are not made of very rigid metal, so if you put it into the post and twist too hard, or if the base gets pulled out along with the metal clasp, this is what happens:

Compressed bulb bases

Notice the compressed base on the blue LED, and the posts that pushed in on the white LED.  Not nearly as solid as the original bulb's base, not by a long shot.  >:-(

What's My Angle?

Well, to take the mind off the cracked seat I decided it was time to re-visit the T-Top weatherstripping.  So I started mocking everything up before I broke out the glue, and discovered the screw that will hold the t-top vinyl pad to the roof may be tougher to get to with a screwdriver when the weatherstrip's glued in place:

Consulted the AIM for the order things were installed in, looks like the pads go on last...  But given the angle of the screw, I'm not as certain...  :-|

Cracked Seat, Now What?

Well, at least I can blame UPS for this and not a lack of fitness.  :)

Seats arrived with a crack on the side of one of the seats, now to figure out if it's repairable or if it's time to call around to the local Pick n' Pulls...

Vette Driveshaft Woes

posted Sep 3, 2012, 10:20 AM by Geoffrey Herteg   [ updated Sep 3, 2012, 10:24 AM ]

So Meg and I pulled the driveshafts this weekend to replace the U-Joints after I heard a clunk and then "tick-tick-tick" from the rear on a test drive.  Got half of the cups pressed out of the shafts and flanges when we discovered this to our dismay:

Looks like we'll need at least a new yoke (which, judging from the differences in the bad one from the one from the driver's side, may already be a replacement).  Hoping to avoid a new driveshaft if we can...  :(

Birth of a Time Sink (or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Socket Wrench)

Thanks to some sneakiness on the part of Meghan and Dana, a new addition to our household has arrived: a 1976 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe.  The new whip spent the last 17 years in Dana's garage, so she's going to need some TLC.

The research has started on what to do beyond getting her running smooth again (restoration, or track car?).  What to do, what to do...?  :-)

Bangalore Observation #3

Bangalore Observation #3: Sundays feel weird when a) all the American Football scores are for college games and b) there is nowhere to watch said games. Frustrated I can’t watch the USC v. UofO game, the Bowl Bound app just doesn’t do any game justice.

Update: ESPN3 works!  I’m watching the Stanford/Cal game in the room.  :)  Not looking like it’s going to be a Cal upset now, but a good drive and effort by Cal in the last 2 minutes to keep the game interesting.  :)

Wedding Website Work

Ugh, had forgotten how much I don’t miss trying to write HTML/CSS.  Started toying around with setting up the wedding website for Meghan today (what? I don’t have football to watch after 1pm IDT!).  Will have to flesh it out once Meg has some actual content she wants to post and the colors picked out (guess that all depends upon paper choices).

Might need a “countdown to Doomsday” clock on it…  It is in 2012 after all.  ;)
